April 19, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The River Bandits will make their national television debut on Monday, May 3 when their 11:00 a.m. matinee against the Burlington Bees will be picked up by MLB Network and broadcast live from coast to coast.

That afternoon's game is part of a number of River Bandits games to be televised locally by Mediacom on MC22. MLB Network has agreed to pick up the broadcast feed of the contest as part of relationship developed between Minor League Baseball and MLB Network. The game can now be seen in over 55 million cable and satellite homes nationwide.

"We're honored MLB Network has chosen our game to carry on their very popular national network," said team owner Dave Heller. "It is a big honor for the River Bandits and the Quad Cities to have our game shown live on national TV, and we want baseball fans all across the country to see why Modern Woodmen Park is consistently named one of the most beautiful ballparks in the country. It's great exposure for us, for the Midwest League, and for the Quad Cities, and we could not be more proud."

May 3 is a Book Buddies reading program day with over 3,000 students from area schools expected to pack the stands. These students are being rewarded for completing a four-week reading program provided by the River Bandits to promote literacy among Quad Cities area students. The program is set up around individual teachers' reading goals with the final prize being a trip to Modern Woodmen Park for a Bandits game and a complimentary meal.

MLB Network announced a partnership with MiLB on Monday which includes broadcasts of selected minor league games throughout the 2010 season. The Midwest League is one of three MiLB member leagues involved in the agreement with MLB Network. The others are the California League and the International League.

"To be able to display Modern Woodmen Park to a national television audience is something only two or three single-A clubs have the opportunity to do," said River Bandits Vice President and General Manager Kirk Goodman. "We are very proud of playing in such a wonderful ballpark and we are excited to show the nation just what a jewel we have right here in the Quad Cities."

Fans can get their tickets now to be a part of this national television broadcast by visiting or calling the Modern Woodmen Park box office at (563) 3-BANDIT or by logging on to www.riverbandits.com
