BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - David Vallorani and Scott Jacklin led the way with two goals and an assist apiece to propel the Brampton Beast to a rollicking 6-4 win over a resilient Elmira Jackals club at the Powerade Centre on Friday night.
This high-scoring decision came on a night when the Beast honoured their affiliation with the Montreal Canadiens, the team that popularized high-flying and exciting hockey.
Due to transactions made prior to the game, both Vallorani and Jacklin were entrusted with more playing time by the coaching staff, and they both responded with their most productive nights on the scoreboard thus far in the 2016-17 ECHL season.
David Pacan potted one goal and one assist, and Brandon MacLean found the net for the Beast (6-3-1-2), who snapped their two-game losing skid and extended their winning streak over the Jackals to eight games.
After a cautious first 10 minutes of the opening frame, the Beast offense took their game to another level by rattling 11 shots on goal in the latter half of the period.
Their increased urgency in the attacking end was rewarded with the ice-breaking goal with 9:24 remaining on the clock. Jacklin scored his first goal of the night by banging home his own rebound into the net after finding the puck off of a hard blast from the left-circle by David Pacan.
Vallorani got on the board with his first goal at 12:15 by rifling beautiful wrist shot into the top left corner of the net behind Jackals' goaltender John Muse.
The Elmira defense continued to be under siege for the rest of the period as the Beast created a bounty of second-chance opportunities off of rebounds by Muse.
To their credit, the Jackals managed to stop the bleeding to start the second period as Davis Vandane scored at 2:41 to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Colin Murray managed to tie the game by scoring the equalizing goal at 11:54 of the middle frame.
Brampton went on top again 31 seconds later at 12:25. After Muse denied Vallorani, MacLean picked up the rebound in the slot and pounded a hard low shot into the enemy cage.
Vallorani gave his team their second two-goal lead of the night by forehand-tipping the puck into the net after receiving a picture-perfect pass from behind the Jackals net from Luc-Olivier Blain.
Brampton's late surge carried over into the third period with a fifth goal 58 seconds into the final regulation period. Jacklin rocketed a hard wrist shot past Muse from in tight while fending off a Jackals defender.
Jackals leading scorer Daultan Leveille increased the drama in this contest by scoring at 11:27, and then at 16:03, to turn this matchup into a one-goal affair.
Beast starting netminder Zach Fucale responded by making a couple of big pad saves before Pacan scored an empty net goal to confirm a win for the Beast.
Fucale made 29 saves on 33 shots to earn his team-leading third victory, while Muse stopped 30 of 35 shots in defeat.
The Beast will look to sweep this home-and-home series, and win their ninth straight game against the Jackals, with a victory at First Arena on Friday night.
Notes: Pacan is now the sole leader in team scoring with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points. Vallorani is now second on the team with six goals and eight assists for 14 points. No team was sent to the penalty box in the game.
