Alaska Aces News Release

WICHITA, KANSAS - The Alaska Aces badly outshot the Wichita Thunder, but the scoreboard told a different story as the home team captured a 5-1 victory over the visitors Friday night at the Intrust Bank Arena.

The Aces threw 47 shots at the Wichita net, but only one crossed the goal line.

The Thunder got the scoring going at 12:04 of the first period. The Aces turned the puck over inside their own blueline, and Nathan Moon was quick to jump on it and blast a shot from the slot past Aces goaltender Kevin Carr for his third goal of the season.

Alaska would respond at 14:11 of the first. With Nick Trecapelli off on an interference penalty, Stephen Perfetto won the draw and got the puck to Steve Tarasuk. His short-distance shot was stopped by Thunder netminder Scott Greenham, but Tarasuk stayed with it and banged the puck home for his second goal of the season.

Wichita struck first in the second period as well. Gabriel Gagne got Carr to bite on a deke and then backhanded the puck up and over for his second goal of the season at 2:11. A short time later, at 3:44, Moon blasted home his second goal of the game, 4th of the season from just beyond the hash marks and through Carr.

More Wichita in the third period, this time on special teams.

With teammate and ex-Ace Ryan Tesink in the penalty box, Alexis Loiseau broke into the Aces zone on the right wing and slid a shot through Carr for a short-handed strike at 4:20, his 8th goal of the season.

Alexis Vanier put the finishing touch on the scoring with a power play tally at 8:55.

Greenham was outstanding with 46 saves. Carr took the loss with 20 stops.

Alaska and Wichita will play again Saturday at 7:05pm local, 4:05pm Alaska time.

ACES NOTE: Goaltender Michael Garteig has been reassigned by NHL Vancouver to the Alaska Aces. He will rejoin the Aces Saturday in Wichita.
