Fuel Extend Winning Streak to Three with 6-1 Rout of Wheeling
November 18, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Making their first home appearance in two weeks, the Indy Fuel posted their third win in a row, halting the Wheeling Nailers 5-game winning streak as they claimed a convincing 6-1 conquest Friday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Left wing Marek Tvrdon spearheaded the Fuel's six-goal assault with a pair of third period goals while adding 1-assist as Indy broke the game open with a 3-goal third blitz in 5:17 after seizing a 3-1 advantage through the first two periods.
Defenseman Chris Williams opened the game's scoring with his first goal of the season on a screened shot from left point at the 7:44 mark. It was a positive portent for the Fuel who are now a perfect 4-0 this season when delivering the game's first strike. Anthony Beauregard (4) and Evan Mosey (1) connected in the middle stanza to build an insurmountable 3-0 lead for the victors, leading to the Fuel's third period barrage. Beauregard has now scored the GWG in all 3 of Indy's victories during the win streak. Center Patrick D'Amico added 3-assists and Jake Hildebrand, the reigning CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week, for a second consecutive game, earned the game's #1 Star, making 29-saves. The Michigan State All-American has been in goal during the 3-game win streak and has accounted for all 5- of his club's triumphs thus far this season.
Left wing Alex Wideman also contributed 1-goal and 1-assist in the winning cause.
The Fuel's 3-goal third period outburst and 6-goal game output matched season-highs for the team in both categories.
Tonight's triumph, perhaps, was a positive omen for the men of the Fuel who are in the midst of playing 7 of their next 8-games at home including a 4-game home stand in 6-days.
Indy will continue the home stand with their second of 3-home games in 3-days Saturday night when they launch a 2-games' home stand series in under 24-hours against the Atlanta Gladiators. Face-off tomorrow night is 7:35 pm while the Sunday matinee encore presentation between the two teams is set for 3:05 pm.
Next Home Game: Saturday, November 19 vs. Atlanta Gladiators - 7:35 p.m. Join the Fuel in paying homage to all the service men and women that keep our community safe. Throughout the night, tributes and thanks will be offered to military personnel and first responders for their inspiring dedication and sacrifice. Show your service ID and receive a commemorative puck! (while supplies last)
