FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Trevor Cheek scored twice and added an assist as the host Fort Wayne Komets (8-3-2) pulled away with three straight third period goals to claim a 5-1 victory over the Quad City Mallards (7-4-1) Friday night.

The Komets rebounded emphatically after the Mallards' Michael Parks halved what had been a 2-0 Fort Wayne lead just 18 seconds into the third period with a wrist shot from the right wing circle.

Kyle Thomas stretched the league back to a pair for the Komets by pouncing on a rebound at 4:03 of the third. At 7:20, the gap widened to 4-1 when Jason Binkley converted Cheek's feed from close range. Just 43 seconds remained when Cheek capped off the Fort Wayne win with a shorthanded breakaway goal.

The Komets first moved in front with just 14 seconds left in the first period when Garrett Thompson set up Shawn Szydlowski alone in front of the Mallard net. Cheek doubled the margin from the left wing circle at 16:31 of the second period.
