ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES -

Tonight, the Royals face the Manchester Monarchs for the fourth time this season-and the second in what is a three-game set at SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire. o

The Royals and Monarchs will face one-another ten times over the course of the 2016-17 regular season with seven of those games scheduled to be played at Santander Arena in Reading and three (all consecutively) here at SNHU Arena.

-

So far, the Monarchs have won all three games played in the season series. Manchester knocked off the Royals twice at Santander Arena in Reading: 5-1 on October 21 and 6-4 on November 12, and the Monarchs also claimed the first game of this three-game set at SNHU Arena, 4-1, on Wednesday morning.

-

In Wednesday's game, the Monarchs struck first-16:04 into the first period-and followed that with three in a span of 3:32 early in the second period to build what proved to be an insurmountable lead. o

Reading did break up the shutout bid of Manchester goaltender Sam Brittain with 1:03 left in the second period on Justin Crandall's first goal of the season; but could not mount a credible come-back effort in the third.

-

Wednesday's loss dropped the Royals record to one game under .500 at 6-7-0-1. This marks the first time this season that Reading's record has fallen below .500. Last season (2015-16), other than dropping the first game of the year, the Royals' record never fell below .500. The last time that Reading's record was below .500 was in the 2014-15 season on November 14, 2014, when the Royals' record stood at 4-5-0-0.

-

The 4-1 loss on Wednesday also served to stretch the Royals' current losing streak to five games. This is the first time that Reading has lost five games in regulation in a row since the team record eight game losing streak in the 2008-09 season, which stretched from November 22 through December 6, 2008. o

Reading did go winless (0-4-0-1) in five consecutive last season (11/20 - 12/05/15); and in the 2013-14 season (0-4-1-0) (11/27 - 12/15/13); and also went nine in a row without a win (0-5-2-2) in the 2011-12 season (11/13 - 12/08/11). o

In the streak where the Royals lost a team-record eight straight in regulation (11/22 - 12/06/08), the Royals actually went nine straight without a win (0-8-0-1) (11/21 - 12/06/08).

-

The loss in Manchester on Wednesday morning also served to stretch the Royals current road losing streak to a season-long three games. Overall, Reading is 5-4-0-1 through ten road games this season.

-

Wednesday's game marked the fourth time this season that Reading's offense has been held to just one goal- and the second time that Manchester has accomplished that feat. o

Reading has scored forty-eight goals through fourteen games this season, which is a 3.43 goals per game average, tied-ninth best in the league.

-

The four goals scored by Manchester on Wednesday marked the sixth time this season that Reading has given up four or more goals against (0-6-0-0). o

Overall, the Royals have allowed fifty-five goals against, which translates into a 3.93 team goals against average, which is twenty-sixth in the league. o

On Wednesday, the Royals were credited with only 24 shots on goal, marking the first time this season that the team has been held to fewer than 25 shots.

-

On Wednesday, Reading allowed the game's first goal for the tenth time in fourteen games played so far this season (3-6-0-1) and trailed for a total of 43:56 of game time. o

In the 300 minutes of hockey that has been played during this most recent five game losing streak, the opposition has held the lead for 182:59, while Reading has led for 5:53 of game time.

-

The Monarchs' third goal on Wednesday, which came at the 6:14 mark of the second period of play was scored by Teddy Doherty. That was the second PPG for Doherty in as many games against the Royals. o

Manchester ended up 1-3 on the power play in Wednesday's game, and so far have gone 5 -10 on the PP in the three games played between the two teams. o

After Wednesday, Reading has given up at least one power play goal against in thirteen of the fourteen games played by the team and has allowed two PPGAs in five games. o

Overall, the Royals have allowed 18 PPGAs in 54 chances with the man advantage, which is a 66.7% kill ratio (twenty-seventh in the league).

-

The Royals ended up going 0-5 on the power play in Wednesday's loss. That marked the seventh time this season that Reading's PP has been held off the board (3-4-0-0). o

In the three games played so far against the Monarchs, Reading's power play has gone 1-16, which is a 6.25% scoring ratio. o

Overall, Reading is scoring power play goals at a 20.8% clip (11-53), which is tenth best in the league.

-

Justin Crandall, who scored seventeen goals (17g-38a=55pts) in fifty-four games during his rookie season with Reading last year, scored the lone goal for Reading on Wednesday. That was Crandall's first goal of the year. o

Olivier Labelle and Derik Johnson picked up the assists on Crandall's goal. For Labelle, that was his twelfth point of the season (5g-7a), which is tied for second most on the team. For Johnson, he has recorded four points this year (1g-3a).

-

Defenseman Florian Iberer engaged in his first tilt as a Royal when he took on the Monarchs' Tony Turgeon 7:52 into Wednesday's game. That was the eighth fighting major assessed against Reading this season.

-

Goaltender Mark Dekanich made thirty-three saves in a losing effort on Wednesday. That marked his fifth loss of the season (3-5-0-1) for Dekanich, who has been the goaltender of record in four of the Royals' losses in this most recent skid. Dekanich currently has a goals against average of 3.76 with an .889 save percentage. o

Reading's overall save percentage stands at .878, which is twenty-sixth in the league. Florida has the best save percentage in the ECHL at .928.
