Valeev & Byrne Reassigned from Worcester

Peoria, Ill. (February 11, 2005) – Rivermen Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced today that fourth-year left wing Igor Valeev and second-year defenseman Trevor Byrne have been reassigned from the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Worcester IceCats. Christie also announced that tough man David Kaczowka has been reassigned to the IceCats.

Valeev – a 6-foot, 210-pound native of Snezhensk, Russia – collected three assists in 19 games and 27 penalty minutes (PIM) with three majors for the IceCats this season since his reassignment on December 11. The 24-year-old left wing registered 10 points (3g, 7a) and 27 PIM in 16 games with Peoria to open the year. Last season, the St. Louis Blues' fourth round selection (122nd overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft posted 13 points (5g, 8a) and 33 PIM with a +8 plus/minus in 11 games over two reassignments with Peoria; in 31 games with Worcester last year, he tallied four points (1g, 3a) and 68 PIM.

Byrne – a 6-foot-3, 218-pound native of Weymouth, Mass. – did not tally a point in eight games since rejoining the IceCats on January 16. In his first reassignment (12/28/04-01/16/05) with the Rivermen, he registered eight points (4g, 4a) and a +13 plus/minus in 10 games. The 24-year-old notched seven points (1g, 6a) in 25 games with Worcester to open the 2004-2005 campaign. The fifth round selection (143rd overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft competed in six games for the Rivermen last season over two reassignments without a point.

Kaczowka – a 6-foot-2, 230-pound native of Regina, Saskatchewan – notched two assists, seven PIM and a +1 plus/minus in his most recent three-game stint back with the Rivermen. Heading to the IceCats for the fourth time this season, the 23-year-old ruffian had 38 PIM in six games over his previous three reassignments. On the season, he has 126 PIM in 19 games with Peoria.

The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL – The Premier "AA" Hockey League. On Friday, February 11, the Rivermen host the Dayton Bombers at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena. It's the Third Annual Potter & Anderson Jewelers "Wedding on Ice." Five Peoria-area couples will get married on Carver Arena ice. The team will wear special Valentine's Day-themed jerseys to be auctioned immediately following the game with the proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois – Peoria Office. On Sunday, February 13, Peoria hosts the rival Johnstown Chiefs for the first time this season. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. It is the third of four Peoria Journal Star/Insight Media Family Days. Kids 12 & Under receive a $2 Upper Bowl admission, and there are $2.50 Kids Meals. Scooby Doo will appear courtesy of the Cartoon Network.
