San Diego Unbeaten in 25 of Last 26 Games Against Long Beach

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls are unbeaten in 25 of their last 26 games against the Long Beach Ice Dogs and look to continue their dominance when the two Southern California rivals meet tonight at the Sports Arena.

SERIES HISTORY: The Gulls and Ice Dogs have met three times this season with San Diego holding a 2-1-0 series edge. The two teams will clash four more times in the regular season. San Diego and Long Beach met 10 times last season with the Gulls holding a 9-0-1 edge.

San Diego owns the all-time series match-up, posting a 38-11-2 record against its West Division rival. The Gulls are 21-3-1 all-time against the Ice Dogs at the Sports Arena. San Diego is unbeaten in 25 of its last 26 head-to-head meetings against Long Beach (24-1-1), dating back to October 2002...

LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (JAN. 14 @ LBH): Brian Gornick scored twice, Sylvain Deschatelets added two assists and goaltender Eddy Ferhi stopped 26 of 27 shots, leading the Gulls to a 4-1 victory in Long Beach. Scott Borders gave San Diego a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, before Curtis Brown tallied halfway through the second, giving the Blue and Orange a 2-0 cushion. That's when Ferhi took over, thwarting a bunch of quality Ice Dog opportunities. Gornick then sandwiched his two goals in between Long Beach's only tally in the third period.

GULLS UPDATE: The Gulls (24-16-5) enter the day fifth in the West Division, two points behind the fourth-place Fresno Falcons and three points back of the third-place Alaska Aces... San Diego, however, has one game in hand on Fresno... The Gulls are 15-4-2 at home and 9-12-3 on the road this season... They've outscored their opponents 82-58 at home, but have been out-scored 76-55 on the road... The Blue and Orange are 3-5-1 in their last nine games... They've been out-shot 287-189 and out-scored 24-15 in their last eight games...

OTHER NOTES: Only two West Division teams have beaten the Gulls in regulation at the Sports Arena (Idaho and Alaska)... The other two teams to win in regulation on San Diego's home ice is the Peoria Rivermen and Pensacola Ice Pilots... The Gulls have the third ranked power play in the league (18.8 percent) and the best at home (23.6 percent)... Max Birbraer leads the club with 32 points (11g, 21a). His 21 assists is tied with Brown and Mike Garrow for the team lead... The Gulls have five players that have scored 10+ goals (Birbraer – 11, Gornick – 16, Sean O'Connor – 15, Guillaume Fournier – 11 and Sylvain Deschatelets – 11)... Four of the Gulls' next five games will be at home...

LONG BEACH UPDATE: Long Beach (30-13-4) begins the day first in the West, two points ahead of the Bakersfield Condors... The Ice Dogs and Ice Pilots have the most points in the entire ECHL, but Pensacola has the better winning percentage... Long Beach has won five of its last six games and is unbeaten in 23 of its last 28 overall (21-5-2)... All-Star goaltender Chris Madden is second in the ECHL with a 1.95 goals-against average. He is first with a .946 save percentage, tied for first with five shutouts and tied for second with 19 wins. Madden shut-out the Gulls 3-0 on Opening Night (Oct. 22)... Evan Cheverie leads the club with 45 points, which is tied for seventh in the league... The Ice Dogs are in the midst of an eight-game road trip. So far they are 2-1-0...

TRANSACTIONS: Sean Murphy was activated from the 30-day injured list today... Nikita Korovkin was returned from the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch on Sunday... Borders was placed on the seven-day injured list Saturday with a quad contusion... Grady Moore was acquired Feb. 4 from the Dayton Bombers in a three-team deal with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies... Evgueni Nourislamov and Wes Rypien all remain on the 30-day injured list...
