
Tyler Minges joins Portland from Pawtucket

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox today transferred outfielder Tyler Minges to the Portland Sea Dogs from Triple-A Pawtucket. Sea Dogs outfielder Jay Johnson was returned to Single-A Greenville. Minges will wear uniform # 36.
In 25 games with Pawtucket in 2006, Minges is hitting .247 with one home run and five RBI. The 26 year-old was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a minor league free-agent on February 1, 2006. He was originally a sixth round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians in the June 1998 draft.
In 2005, Minges spent the season with the Cardinals Double-A affiliate in Springfield. He led the Texas League in hitting (.324), slugging percentage (.564) and extra base hits (59). He ranked second in the league in total bases (242), third in runs (98) and doubles (34) and finished fourth with a .392 on base percentage. He was selected to both the mid-season and post-season Texas League All-Star teams.
Johnson who joined the Sea Dogs on April 29th from Single-A Greenville made an immediate impact with the Sea Dogs. In his Double-A debut on April 29th he went 3-5 with two doubles and drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning for a 3-2 win over the Bowie Baysox. In the eight games Johnson appeared in for Portland, he hit .333 with four doubles, two home runs, and nine RBI. Johnson was a 13th round draft pick of the Red Sox in the June 2005 draft.
