Gabbard Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs left-handed pitcher Kason Gabbard has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of Week for the week of May 1-7, 2006. Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) made the selection.

Gabbard, a native of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, posted a 2-0 record with 17 strikeouts and a 0.69 ERA in two starts for Portland during the week. In his first start of the week on May 1st against the Connecticut Defenders (Giants) at Hadlock Field, the 24-year old, tossed six innings of scoreless ball surrendering just two hits. He did not walk a batter and matched a career high with ten strikeouts. In his second appearance of the week, he earned a win against the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins) on May 7th at New Britain. Gabbard tossed seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits. He walked two and struck out seven.

Gabbard a 6'4", 200 lb. left-handed pitcher was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 29th round of the June 2000 draft. For the season, Gabbard is tied for the Eastern League lead in wins with four. He has recorded a 4-1 record with a 3.13 ERA in six starts.

Gabbard was also selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the week for the week of August 9-15, 2004.
