
Fisher Cats Snap Losing Streak, Beat Phillies 6-2

Reading, PA - The Fisher Cats (10-20) scored four runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 6-2 win over the Reading Phillies (13-16) Monday night at First Energy Stadium.
The Fisher Cats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo homer from 1B Chip Cannon, his fifth of the season. They would tack on four runs in the fourth as RF David Smith led off the inning with a double. With one out, Cannon singled to put runners at the corners and DH John Schneider doubled home Smith. CF Miguel Negron drove home Cannon with an RBI groundout and 3B Eric Arnold launched his second home run of the season, a two run shot, to put New Hampshire ahead 5-0 against Reading LHP Brian Mazone, who allowed a total of five rus on eight hits in five and two-thirds innings pitched. He walked one and struck out four.
RHP Jason Arnold made a spot start for the Fisher Cats and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while recording seven strikeouts. He gave way to RHP Jordan DeJong (1-0) who allowed just one unearned run in three innings as 2B Tim Moss scored on an error by SS Manny Mayorson in the fifth.
Reading would climb back within three runs as LF John Castellano, who had three of Reading's seven hits, homered, his third, off of LHP Jim Bullard in the eighth to make it 5-2. It was the first earned run Bullard had allowed on the season, a streak spanning ten and a third innings over 11 appearances. RHP Tracy Thorpe entered and retired all five batters he faced to pick up his first save.
The Fisher Cats and Phillies go at it again on Tuesday morning at 11:35 AM. RHP Mike MacDonald (2-1, 3.33) goes for the Fisher Cats against LHP Allen Davis (1-0, 2.84). The Fisher Cats return home on Thursday, May 11 to begin a seven game home stand. They face the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) at 6:35 PM Thursday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
