Carlos Gomez homered and drove in three runs, helping the Binghamton Mets to a 5-4 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats yesterday at NYSEG Stadium...in addition to his homer, Gomez also hit a game-tying, two-run double in the seventh...Jonathan Slack followed Gomez's double with a sacrifice fly that brought home Corey Ragsdale with what proved to be the winning run, as Binghamton came back from a 4-2 deficit...Jay Caligiuri also homered for Binghamton...the B-Mets swept the three-game series from the Fisher Cats after being swept in four games at Akron last week.

About Binghamton

Binghamton swept a series for the first time since taking three in a row 4/10-12 vs. REA...the three wins over the Fisher Cats were all by one run, the first one-run contests for the B-Mets since they lost 4-3 in 11 innings 4/19 @ NH...after hitting .176 (9 for 51) with men in scoring position over their previous six contests, the B-Mets went 2 for 4 in such scenarios yesterday, with both hits - Ragsdale's bases-loading single and Gomez's two-run double - coming in back-to-back at-bats in the decisive seventh inning... ...LHP Evan MacLane was promoted to AAA Norfolk after yesterday's game. He will get a spot start for the Tides Monday, replacing Jose Lima, who started for the Mets yesterday in place of the injured Brian Bannister. RHP Will Vazquez was called up today from High-A St. Lucie to take MacLane's place...RHP Vincent Cordova, who was a candidate to start today, is no longer with the team.

The Defenders come to NYSEG Stadium ½ game behind first-place Portland in the EL North after taking three in a row from Trenton at Dodd Stadium, giving them wins in six of their last nine games...Connecticut's 2.82 ERA is second in the EL, with two of their hurlers placing in the EL's top four in ERA...those pitchers are coached by Bob Stanley, who served as Binghamton's pitching coach in 1999 and again from 2001-2002...the Defenders were previously known as the Norwich Navigators.

B-Mets manager Juan Samuel, struck in the face by a foul ball off the bat of Akron's Pat Osborn 4/24, underwent surgery to repair his nose and cheekbone Monday in New York and returned to the dugout Saturday. Mets Coordinator of Field Instruction Kevin Morgan went 3-6 as the interim skipper...1B Michel Abreu turned in his first hitless game in a B-Mets uniform yesterday. He hit safely in his first eight games with Binghamton since being called up from St. Lucie, going 15 for 33 (.455) with six multi-hit games over that stretch.

In 16 2/3 innings, allowed 11 hits, four walks and struck out 15...held opponents to a .193 average, including a .154 mark (2 for 13) with men in scoring position...didn't allow a run in seven of his eight appearances with St. Lucie, yielding two runs overall...didn't walk more than one in any outing.
