Portland Sea Dogs News Release

The winning streak is now five for the Portland Sea Dogs. On Monday night they defeated the Trenton Thunder, 5-4 in the first meeting between the two clubs since last year's Northern Division Championship Series. Portland has won 10 of their last 11 and improved to 10-4 at Hadlock Field.

David Bacani's two-run double in the fourth inning, giving Portland a 5-1 advantage, proved to be the game-winning hit for the 'Dogs. Devern Hansack (1-1) notched his first victory in the Red Sox Organization, working five innings on four hits and one earned run. The righty was making a spot start due to last week's doubleheader against the Connecticut Defenders.

Luis Jimenez picked up his third straight multi-rbi game, knocking in two runs, including the games first in the opening frame. Jimenez has nine RBI's in his last three games, improving his total to 15. Trenton starter Steven White (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season, surrendering five runs on nine hits through six innings. White entered the game, ninth in the league in ERA at 1.78.

Trenton tied the game off Hansack in the second inning on Kevin Howard's solo home run to right field. Portland scored two runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-1 lead.

Justin Sturge allowed two runs in one and 1/3 innings but Edgar Martinez and Barry Hertzler had scoreless appearances to nail down the win. Hertzler picked up his second save in as many days.

Notes...Brandon Moss extended his hitting streak to six games...Portland is now 7-2 in one run games...Trenton is 3-15 in games decided by two runs or less...The top five batters in Portland's lineup reached base ten times.
