Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs fell short on Saturday at Haymarket Park, losing a 6-4 decision to the Sioux Falls Canaries. Lincoln drops to 1-4 on the second half of the season.

The Saltdogs had rallied from a four-run deficit earlier in the game, but Sioux Falls took the lead for good in the eighth inning without hitting the ball out of the infield. Three infield hits loaded the bases with one out against reliever Adam Daniels (3-2). A force play at home produced the second out, and Daniels induced a two-out grounder to short, but it went under the glove of Jake Jadlowski for an error that allowed the go-ahead run to score. Jadlowski had entered the game in the seventh inning after Albenis Machado apparently suffered an injury running the bases in the sixth. A bases-loaded walk issued by Daryl Arreola produced the game's final margin.

Sioux Falls broke open a scoreless game in the sixth inning with four runs, but the Saltdogs needed just two innings to tie the game back up. In the bottom of the sixth, newly-named All-Star Shawn McGill hit a two-out, two-run homer, his third of the season, to make the score 4-2. In the bottom of the seventh, Lincoln loaded the bases with two out, and Sioux Falls turned to reliever Patrick Lawler (3-0). Pichi Balet greeted Lawler with a two-run single that tied the contest at four.

McGill finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Shea McFeely also had a pair of hits and a run for Lincoln. On the mound, Saltdogs closer Chris Thompson, who was also named to the All-Star team on Saturday, struck out the side in the top of the ninth.

Lincoln will try to salvage the finale of its three-game series against Sioux Falls Sunday night at 6:05. Righty Brian Campbell will make the start for the Saltdogs.

The current Saltdogs homestand runs through July 12. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
