Sioux City Explorers News Release

St. Paul, MN.....The St. Paul Saints moved back into first place in the American Association North second half race as they defeated the Sioux City Explorers 5-2 Saturday at Midway Stadium.

With the loss, the Explorers fall back into a two-way tie for second place in the North with Sioux Falls.

The Explorers out hit St. Paul ten to seven, but squandered several scoring opportunities and they left 13 runners on base. The X's had base runners in every inning except the ninth when Saints reliever Kerry Ligtenberg came in and retired the Explorers in order to pick up his 12th save of the year.

Catcher Brett Mieras led the Explorers with three hits and one RBI while James Boone extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single. Nick McCoola and Jason Colson also had two hits each for the X's.

Sioux City starter Tyler Meigs ran into control problems in the fourth inning, walking three and giving up the go-ahead run on a base hit by Steve Butler that gave St. Paul a 3-2 lead.

The three-game series is tied at a game apiece with the final game of the series Sunday starting at 1:05. After a day off Monday, the Explorers will return home to Lewis and Clark Park Tuesday to start a three-game series with Lincoln.
