Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - Four Canaries players, along with the Canaries coaching staff, will represent Sioux Falls at the 2009 American Association All-Star Game, which will be hosted by Grand Prairie on Tuesday, July 21.

Managers from the north division, along with media members, voted to select three Canaries in the starting line-up. The starting line-up will feature second baseman Joe Anthonsen, third baseman Trevor Lawhorn, and outfielder Cory Harris, along with four players from the Wichita Wingnuts and two players from the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Anthonsen was the top defensive second baseman in the first half. Joe made just two errors defensively in 233 total chances, a fielding percentage of .991. The native of Cottage Grove, MN, is hitting .290 with 54 hits and 20 RBI.

Lawhorn who was picked up by Major League organizations twice while playing with the Canaries during the 2007 season, has thrived with the Birds yet again. Trevor is hitting .302 with three home runs and 28 RBI while having played in all 52 games this season.

Harris has been one of the American Association's top hitters all season. His consecutive games on-base streak reached 44 before coming to an end in Lincoln on Friday, one game shy of the American Association record. Cory is currently tied for tenth in the league with a .333 batting average to go along with six home runs and a team-best 40 RBI.

Steve Shirley, who will manage the North Division All-Stars, alongside Canaries hitting coach John Harris and Birds pitching coach Mike Meyer, selected the pitchers and reserves for the North Division All-Stars. With his additional selections, Steve added Canaries shortstop Tim Hutting to the 2009 North Division All-Star Team.

This season Hutting has continued the offensive success that he showed as he led the Canaries past the Sioux City Explorers in the North Division Playoff Series in 2008. Tim is hitting .301 with two home runs and 19 RBI. After playing in all 96 regular season games last year, the Canaries resident Iron Man has played in every game this year totaling 148 consecutive games played.
