Three Wingnuts hurlers added to All-Star team

WICHITA, KS- Three more Wingnuts players are headed to the American Association All-Star Game on July 21st with the addition of starting pitchers Gabe Medina, Adam Cowart, and Derek Blacksher.

Medina, 7-2, is tied for the league lead in wins, and also ranks ninth with a 3.09 ERA. In his first professional season as a full-time starting pitcher, Medina has pitched at least six innings in eight of his last nine starts and has won his last five decisions. Medina has allowed six or fewer base hits in seven consecutive starts.

Cowart joined the Wingnuts in late May from the San Francisco Giants organization and is currently 4-2 with the sixth best ERA in the league at 2.66. On June 27th, Cowart tossed the first complete game shutout of his career, throwing a three-hitter over the St. Paul Saints to bring the Wingnuts within one win of the first half division title. Cowart is tied for the league lead with three complete games this season and has thrown at least six innings in six of his last seven starts.

Blacksher is 5-2 with a 3.80 ERA. Prior to Friday night, Blacksher had won three consecutive starts. Another innings eater, Blacksher has worked at least six innings in 10 consecutive starts and ranks third in the league with 54 strikeouts. Blacksher set a Wingnuts single-game record on May 22nd at Sioux City, striking out 10 hitters.

The trio of arms join Joe Muich, Josh Horn, Greg Porter, and Kelly Hunt to give the first half champion Wingnuts seven all-stars. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21st at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie, TX, home of the Grand Prairie AirHogs.
