St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (July 11, 2009) - The American Association All-Star Game will include two St. Paul Saints players as pitcher Brandon Kintzler and outfielder Brent Krause were selected to participate in the Fourth Annual American Association All-Star Game.
The 24-year-old Kintzler has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the American Association this season. He is 7-2 with a 2.36 ERA in 12 games (nine starts), including a complete game. In 68.2 innings pitched he has walked just 18 and struck out 39 while opponents are hitting .260 against him. He hurled his first professional complete game on June 8 against the Shreveport-Bossier Captains giving up a lone run in the ninth inning on six hits while walking two and striking out five.
Kintzler is tied for first in the league in wins, fourth in ERA and tied for fifth in complete games. This is the second All-Star selection in Kintzler's career, playing in the 2008 Northern League All-Star Game while with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. He was a 40th round selection by the San Diego Padres in 2004.
The 27-year-old Krause has had another incredible season hitting .316 with seven homers and 37 RBI while playing in all 53 games. In 190 at bats he has scored 38 runs, walloped 10 doubles, one triple with a slugging percentage of .489 and an on base percentage of .414. This is the third consecutive year Krause has been selected to the All-Star team while with the Saints. The last two seasons Krause had his contract purchased by Major League organizations (Baltimore Orioles in 2007 and Milwaukee Brewers in 2008).
Both Saints players were chosen by North Division Manager Steve Shirley of the Sioux Falls Canaries. All North Division pitchers were selected by Shirley and Krause was a utility player selection. Each team had two votes (one manager and one media member) and could only vote for their own division.
The All-Star Game will take place at Quick Trip Park in Grand Prairie Texas on July 21 at 7:05 p.m.
