La Crosse - Two late home runs by Nick Day and Bobby Juan accounted for five runs for the La Crosse Loggers as they came back to claim a 6-2 victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

The Woodchucks held a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. With Juan on first and one out, Day blasted an opposite-field home run over the right field porch. The two-run shot gave the Loggers their first lead of the game at 3-2.With the score still 3-2 in the eighth, Juan blasted his eighth career home run against the Woodchucks over the right field wall. The homer came with two runners on to extend the lead to 6-2.

For the third consecutive evening, the Woodchucks would open the scoring in the top of the first. Kyle Haen lead off the ballgame with a double to left before left fielder Troy Traxler misplayed the ball in right to send Haen to third. Two batters later, Tyler Adams singled to put the Woodchucks on top 1-0.

After a scoreless bottom of the frame from Adam Kramer, the offense got back to work in the second. John Menken led the inning off with a double to right-center field and advanced to third on a Mike Mierow sacrifice bunt. John Roberts then lined a ball off of the chest of Loggers third baseman Nick Day, ruled a single, to score Menken and make the score 2-0.

Those would be the only two runs that Frye would allow on the night. Frye finished off seven solid innings, allowing eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Kramer would maintain the shutout up until the bottom of the fifth. In the inning, the Loggers picked up a couple of softly hit singles by Juan and Troy Traxler to put runners on the corners with one out. Austin Rei beat out an attempted 6-4-3 double play that allowed Juan to score and cut the Woodchucks lead to a run.

The Day two-run home run in the seventh would put a damper on what was otherwise a spectacular start by Kramer. Kramer finished seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four with no walks.

The Woodchucks and Loggers will play the final games of their respective seasons tomorrow at Copeland Park in La Crosse. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05.
