Bucks Set New NWL Wins Record in Record Breaking Night
August 10, 2013 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Waterloo Bucks News Release
Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks had a night for the record books on Friday at renovated Riverfront Stadium. With a 6-2 win over the Battle Creek Bombers, Waterloo set a new Northwoods League record for wins with their 51st of the year. The Bucks will look to improve upon that mark in their final two regular season games.
In addition to the wins mark, the Bucks also tied or broke four franchise records during the game. First, Chesny Young (Mercer University) scored his 61st run of the season to tie Chris Curry's mark that was set in 1997.
Central Michigan University product Pat MacKenzie tied Ryan Hastings' 2004 record of walks at 57. Young, who had tied the walk record in the previous game, broke the record, recording his 58th free pass of the season to establish a new record by himself.
Finally, with their fifth run of the evening, Waterloo scored their 453rd run of the season to eclipse the 1998 team's record for runs.
With both half titles and the best overall Northwoods League record (and therefore home field advantage throughout the playoffs) in the bag, the Bucks' home playoff schedule has been set. Regardless of their opponent, the schedule for the North Divisional Playoffs is as follows:
Game One - Monday, August 12 - at North Division Team with Second-Best Overall Record - Time TBA
Game Two - Tuesday, August 13 - at Riverfront Stadium, Waterloo - 6:35 pm
Game Three ( if necessary) - Wednesday, August 14 - at Riverfront Stadium, Waterloo - 6:35 pm
If the Bucks win the North Divisional Playoffs, they will advance to the Summer Collegiate World Series where the NWL Champion will be crowned. The schedule for that series, regardless of their opponent, is as follows:
Game One - Thursday, August 15 - at South Division Champion - Time TBA
Game Two - Friday, August 16 - at Riverfront Stadium, Waterloo - 7:05 pm
Game Three (if necessary) - Saturday, August 17 - at Riverfront Stadium, Waterloo - 7:05 pm
The Bucks play their final regular season home game tonight versus the Willmar Stingers at 7:05 pm. Group outings, single-game, and Playoff tickets are currently on sale. For more information, call the Bucks' Ticket Line at (319) 232-5633. All 2013 Bucks games can be heard on 1330 ESPN (KWLO-AM).
