Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release


The Wisconsin Woodchucks earned a split in their two-game series at Subway Field as they downed the Border Cats 12-4 Friday night before 825 fans. The loss dropped Thunder Bay's second half record to 7-26 with two games remaining in the regular season. The Cats rallied from a 3-0 deficit by tying the game with three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Chucks took the lead for good with a four-run 5th inning and then added five more runs in the 7th.

Danny Shields (Carleton College) made his Cats debut on the mound and took the loss. The righthander pitched five innings and alllowed nine hits and seven runs (six earned runs), with four walks and three strikeouts.

Carter McEachern (Trinity University) extended his hitting streak to four games since rejoining the club as he went 3-3 with a pair of runs scored. The Thunder Bay native upped his batting average to .300. Philip Lyons (Nicholls State University) had a 2-3 night at the plate with a double and a run batted in. His college teammate Tyler Duplantis went 2-5 with a run and his team leading 54th RBI, while Dylan Becker (Missouri State University) raised his average to .275, by going 2-4 with one run scored. Scott Held (University of Mary) collected his first hit with Cats, driving in a pair of runs with a 3rd inning single.

The Cats continue their season ending eight-game homestand tonight when they open a two-game series against the Alexandria Blue Anchors at 6:05pm. Righthander Chris Kerwood (Arkansas State University) will take his 4-6 record to the mound for Thunder Bay in the opener.
