St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (June 15, 2011) - The St. Paul Saints got another tremendous starting effort in game two of the double header, but couldn't muster any offense and lost 3-0 to the Lincoln Saltdogs on Wednesday night at Midway Stadium in front of 4,178.
Saints reliever Edwin Walker, getting his second spot start of the season, retired the first 11 hitters he faced before giving up a two out single to Phil Hawke in the fourth. Hawke was erased trying to steal second.
Walker faced the minimum with two outs in the sixth, but then walked number nine hitter Kevin Rios. After a walk to Blake Gailen, Robert Manuel took over for Walker. Manuel gave up an RBI single to Brandon Jones giving the Saltdogs a 1-0 lead. After a walk to Phil Hawke loaded the bases Curt Smith singled home two. Walker went 5.2 innings allowing two runs on one hit while walking two and striking out seven.
For the fourth time during the six game homestand the Saints managed just four hits. Their best chance to score came in the third when Adam Frost tripled with one out. Justin Snyder then hit a shallow fly to center which Gailen caught and Frost tried to tag, but was thrown out at the plate. They would have just three other base runners the rest of the way.
The Saints now head on the road for a four game series against the Gary SouthShore Railcats at U.S. Steal Yard beginning Thursday night at 7:10 p.m. The Saints send RHP Jake Schmidt (3-0, 3.77). The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
