Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats finished off a six game roadtrip by handling the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 11-5 to stop a three-game losing streak on Wednesday afternoon.

The RailCats took the lead in the second inning, the first lead of the series. Lorenzo Scott led off with a single and scored from first when Kyle Haines doubled into the right center gap. Haines moved to third on a wild pitch and made it a 2-0 lead when Craig Maddox poked a single to left over the drawn in infield. The lead grew to 3-0 with an unearned run in the top of the third. Mike Massaro led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second, and scored on a two base error.

The RedHawks responded to tie the game, scoring a run in the third and a pair in the fourth. Jim Fasano singled home a run in the third while former RailCat Mike Coles singled in another in the fourth before a two-out double from Nic Jackson tied the game. The contest wasn't tied for long. Cristian Guerrero lined a two-run homer over the wall in left for his second long ball of the season to hand the RailCats a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish.

Runs kept piling up for the RailCats, who plated a single run in the sixth when Adam Klein knocked home Maddox with an opposite field single. Five runs crossed in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Chris Carrara knocked in a run with a single while Klein drove home two with a double and Massaro added an RBI single. Jackson and Fasano hit solo homers in the bottom of the ninth to account for the final.

Nolan Nicholson was the beneficiary of the run support, collecting his second win by throwing five innings and allowing three runs, matching a season high with four strikeouts. Jeremy Hauer pitched two perfect innings, while James Baker struck out a pair in his lone frame of work. Every member of the lineup recorded a hit as the RailCats mashed 16 in the game for the second 10+ hit showing in the series. Seven of the hits were for extra bases including six doubles, both season highs. Maddox tallied four hits with Klein adding three to go with three RBIs.

The RailCats open a seven-game homestand over eight days tomorrow at U. S. Steel Yard when the St. Paul Saints visit for the first of a four game series. RHP Scott Shaw (2-3, 5.32) will start for the RailCats against RHP Jake Schmidt (3-0, 3.77).

The RailCats return home tomorrow. A renewed rivalry with the St. Paul Saints gives the RailCats the chance to throw a Mardi Gras style party to celebrate, as U. S. Steel Yard will be transformed into a family friendly version of Bourbon Street! There will be plenty of party surprises all night long and at least one parade so this is a day you sure won't want to miss! Other homestand highlights include Fireworks on Friday, and Bark in the Park on Sunday for Father's Day.
