Pheasants Beat Winnipeg in Extras

WINNIPEG, Manitoba --The Sioux Falls Pheasants won their second extra-inning game of the year by a 4-3 margin over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Tuesday night.

Before a sellout crowd of 7,465, the Pheasants pitching held back the Winnipeg offense to snap a five-game losing streak and even a three-game series at one apiece.

Tied at 2-2 in the top of the 10th inning, the Pheasants drew three straight walks off reliever Ian Thomas (4-2). After Trevor Lawhorn flew out, Francisco Leandro singled sharply to center to plate Gus Milner and Mark Shorey for a 4-2 lead.

Aaron Cotter pitched the bottom of the 10th inning for his fourth save of the year. He allowed a leadoff home run to Victor Ferrante but then retired the next three batters to close out the game.

Pheasants starter Ben Moore returned to form with seven innings of work, holding Winnipeg to one run on three hits. He walked four and struck out four.

Ryan Fleckenstein (2-0) pitched a perfect 1 2/3 innings in the eighth and ninth for his second win in relief.

Winnipeg took a 1-0 lead on Wes Long's double in the in the first inning. The Pheasants responded by loading the bases in the second inning. Francsico Leandro drew a walk to score a run, and Hunter Jobes picked up an RBI with a groundout for a 2-1 lead. Leandro finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Long tied the game at 2-2 in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly. He was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

The Pheasants record improved to 12-19.
