Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (19-13) five-game win streak came to an end Wednesday afternoon as the Gary SouthShore RailCats won the series finale by a score of 11-5 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
Gary jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the early innings. The RedHawks responded in the third as Nic Jackson reached base on a walk, was moved to second on a single through the infield by Jesse Hoorelbeke, and scored on a line drive single by Jim Fasano. The fourth inning looked like a sign of good things to come as hits by Phil Britton, Mike Coles, Zach Penprase, and a two-out double by Jackson which tied the game at 3-3.
In the fifth inning, Gary regained their lead on a two-run home run by Cristian Guerrero. They put up another run in the sixth and exploded for five runs (all unearned) in the seventh to expand that lead to 11-5.
The RedHawks missed a golden opportunity in the fifth inning as Nolan Nicholson was able to escape a jam with the bases loaded. The RedHawk offense was quiet until they attempted another comeback in the ninth inning as Jackson and Fasano both hit solo home runs, but the eight run lead proved to be too much.
Nicholson improved his record to 2-4. He lasted five innings, giving up three runs (all earned) on ten hits. Oliver Odle (2-4) received the loss.
The RedHawks will take on the Sioux Falls Pheasants Thursday night. Game time is 7:02 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a pair of '80's sunglasses courtesy of State Bank and Trust on "Back to the Future Night". Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
