Tulsa Scores Late to Top Eagles, 5-3

Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO. - Tulsa forward Ryan Tesink forced a turnover at the blueline and scored on a subsequent breakaway to unhinge a 3-3 deadlock late in the third period, as the Oilers defeated the Colorado Eagles 5-3 on Saturday. Sam Brittain was terrific in net for Colorado, stopping 48 of the 52 shots he faced in the contest.

After killing off three early power plays for Colorado, Tulsa would jump on the board first when defenseman Tommy Vannelli lit the lamp with a shot through traffic from the point that would put the Oilers on top 1-0 at the 16:06 mark of the first period.

The Eagles would even the score 7:33 into the second period when forward Ryan Harrison collected a loose puck in the slot and snapped it past Tulsa goalie Devin Williams to tie the game at 1-1.

Later in the period, forward Kale Kessy would snag a cross slot pass on the side of the cage and bank the puck into the back of the net to put the Oilers back on top 2-1 with 6:16 remaining in the middle frame. Brittain would make a series of dramatic saves to close things out, as Tulsa outshot Colorado 23-10 in the second period of action.

The Oilers would waste little time in stretching their lead, as forward Mike McKee would slip a puck past Brittain from the top of the crease just 1:32 into the third period to make it a 3-1 Tulsa advantage.

The Eagles would continue to battle and they would generate an answer less than five minutes later when forward Drayson Bowman directed a slap-pass from the point into the net to trim the Oilers lead to 3-2.

With time ticking away in regulation, forward Jesse Mychan tipped a shot from the blue line past Wiliams to tie the game at 3-3 with only 4:43 left in the third period.

A turnover at the Eagles blue line would prove costly as it would spring Tesink on a breakway, which he would bury to put Tulsa back on top 4-3 with 2:27 left to play. Colorado would pull Brittain in favor of the extra attacker, but it would be Kessy who would add an empty-netter to finish off the Oilers 5-3 victory.

Tulsa outshot the Eagles 54-35 in the contest, while Colorado was held 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Eagles return to action when they take on the Kansas City Mavericks at the Budweiser Events Center on Wednesday, March 7th at 7:05pm MT.
