
Monarchs Fall to Thunder, 3-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs were defeated by the Adirondack Thunder, 3-1, Saturday night at SNHU Arena.
The Monarchs (33-20-3-2) were unable to comeback against the Thunder (33-20-3-3) and lost their 5th straight game, by a score of 3-1.
The Thunder lit the lamp first on a goal from Pierre-Luc Mercier, his 15th of the season, at 6:57 of the first period. Mercier circled out of the right corner along the goal line and sent a shot along the ice, through the legs of Monarchs goaltender, Evan Cowley, to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
The Monarchs got on the scoreboard at 2:13 of the second period, when Francois Beauchemin tallied his 7th goal of the season. Keegan Iverson sent a pass through the top of the crease, where Beauchemin backhanded a shot past the blocker of Thunder goaltender, Olivier Mantha, to make the score, 1-1.
The Thunder regained their lead at 10:23 of the second period, when Andrew Radjenovic scored his 7th goal of the season. Austin Orszulak gathered the puck behind the net and centered a pass to the top of the circles to Radjenovic, where he skated to the slot and wristed a shot, past the glove of Cowley, to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.
The Thunder increased their lead when Mercier scored his second of the night, 16th of the season, at 9:26 of the third period. Conor Riley chipped the puck off the glass in the natural zone, where Mercier pick up the puck and skated to the top of the left circle. He took a wrist shot that found the top corner, over the blocker of Cowley, to make it, 3-1, Thunder.
The Monarchs are back in action Sunday, Mar. 4 (3:05 p.m.) in Worcester, Ma. to take on the Worcester Railers at the DCU Center.
NOTES:
The Monarchs have lost a season long five-straight games.
Evan Cowley made 21 saves on 24 shots.
Conor Riley recorded a +3 rating on the night.
James Henry and Alexx Privitera both received 10-minute misconducts at 20:00 of the second period.
