May 9, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN â After a record number 54 players appeared in a Wizards uniform last season, Fort Wayne waited one month into the season for the first promotion of the 2005 campaign.
In conjunction with their major league affiliate, the San Diego Padres, the Wizards have promoted right-hander Ryan Trytten to the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League and have added left-hander Kyle Stutes from extended spring training in Peoria, Arizona.
Trytten signed with the Padres as a free agent in December of 2004 after being selected in 39th round of the June 2000 Amateur Draft. Trytten appeared in 10 games out of the bullpen for the Wizards, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.20 earned run average. In 15 innings of work, he allowed 13 hits, two runs and three walks, while striking out 17.
Stutes joins 10 current Wizards selected in the 2004 June Amateur Draft. The left-hander was selected 22nd round last year by San Diego out of Lamar University. Stutes went 2-2 in 20 relief appearances for Peoria last season. He posted a 3.52 ERA with 34 hits allowed, five walks and 37 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings.
Stutes was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2004 after going 10-2 with a 2.49 ERA and three saves. In 90 1/3 innings, he allowed 76 hits, 21 walks and struck out 84.
