Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL â The Kane County Cougars earned a split in their four-game series with the Peoria Chiefs after a 5-2 victory Monday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Eddie Kim had two doubles and Myron Leslie had three hits, including a solo homer, to lead the offense.
Cougars starter Ryan Webb pitched his longest outing of the year, lasting 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on seven hits while walking none and striking out two. The only tally he allowed was in the second inning when Drew Larsen's sacrifice fly scored Alan Rick for a 1-0 game.
The Cougars' offense began in the fifth off Chiefs starter Lee Gwaltney when Leslie led off with a solo blast to right to tie it 1-1. Nick Blasi led off the sixth with a single and scored on Ryan Ruiz' double to give Kane County a 2-1 lead. Kevin Melillo followed with a single to score Ruiz and later Kim's double plated Melillo for a 4-1 game. Travis Chapman doubled in the seventh, took the third on a grounder and score on a wild pitch for a 5-1 score. Rob Semerano replaced Webb to finish the seventh, worked the eighth and gave up a run in the ninth before Scot Drucker came in to get the save and the 5-2 win.
Webb (3-1) got the win for the Cougars (14-16) and Gwaltney (2-1) suffered the defeat for the Chiefs (12-19). Drucker recorded his eighth save.
Kane County heads to South Bend Tuesday to begin a four-game series with the Silver Hawks. Lefty Ryan Ford (4-1, 3.86) takes the mound for the Cougars against right-hander Ross Ohlendorf (1-3, 3.18). Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. CDT.
