(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton starting pitcher Jason Jones tossed six shutout innings to lead Trenton past Altoona 8-0 on Tuesday night from Waterfront Park. The Thunder now lead the Eastern League with 13 shutouts, and tied its high water mark on the season of 20 games over .500 (55-35).

Trenton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning against Altoona. Thunder right fielder Edwar Gonzalez started the frame with a solo home run off of Altoona starting pitcher Josh Hill (4-11). Later in the inning, Trenton center fielder Austin Jackson had an RBI single to make it 2-0. Hill ended up being lifted for Altoona reliever Dave Davidson with the bases loaded and one out. Trenton designated hitter James Cooper followed by walking against Davidson to force home a run and make it 3-0. The Thunder tacked on a run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by catcher P.J. Pilittere. Piliterre finished the game 3 x 4 with a double, and three RBI. Trenton scored four runs in the eighth inning to finish up the scoring. The big hits in the inning were an RBI triple from shortstop Ramiro Pena, an RBI single from left fielder Colin Curtis, and a two-run double from Pilittere. Jackson went 3 x 5 with two runs and an RBI for the Thunder. Pena, Curtis and Gonzalez also had two hits in the win.

Jones (10-3) scattered five hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked 1, and also increased his consecutive scoreless streak with the Thunder to 15 1/3 innings. Jones lowered his Eastern League leading ERA to 2.15. Thunder relievers Michael Gardner and Bo Hall pitched the final three shutout frames to cap off the victory. Hill gave up four hits and three runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Curve.

Trenton and Altoona are back in action on Wednesday night with the middle game of the three-game series. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. LHP Phil Coke (7-3, 2.86) will start for Trenton against Altoona LHP Kyle Bloom (0-4, 5.02).
