Aerodynamics...

Street Sweepers...After taking three of four in Erie to start their eight-game trip, the Aeros rolled through Binghamton, sweeping a four-game series from the Mets by a combined score of 31-16. RHP Kevin Dixon worked into the eighth inning in yesterday afternoon's 4-2 win, pushing the Aeros to a season-high 23 games over .500 at 56-33. Dixon was terrific, surrendering just an RBI groundout in the first and a Caleb Stewart RBI double in the fourth. It appeared the offense might struggle after Binghamton starter Jonathon Niese struck out the side in the first inning, but the bats recovered to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth on an RBI single by SS Brandon Pinckney and a sacrifice fly by CF Bronson Sardinha. In the sixth inning, red-hot C Wyatt Toregas connected on a two-run home run to give Akron the lead, which Dixon and RHP Luis Perdomo would hold. With a runner at first and one down in the eighth, Perdomo got Fernando Martinez to ground into a 4-3 double play, and then proceeded to strike out the 3-4-5 hitters in the Binghamton order to end the game for his first save with Akron.

Road Warriors...With the sweep in Binghamton, the Aeros have now won 20 of their last 23 games away from Canal Park. The Aeros have lost just one game on each of their last four road trips, and the stretch includes a franchise record 11-game road winning streak. In fact, the Aeros have not lost a road series since being swept in Bowie May 2nd-4th. And outside of dropping three of five to the Baysox on the last homestand, the sweep at Bowie is also the last time the Aeros have lost any series. The Aeros are 27-7 in their last 34 games to move from third place, 4.5 games out, to 4.5 games in front.

Toregas on a Tear...The day he was named the Eastern League's Player of the Week, Akron C Wyatt Toregas pounded a sixth-inning, two-run homer to provide the difference in yesterday's 4-2 win. The Virginia Tech standout hit .409 (9-22) on the road trip and all nine of his hits went for extra bases. He knocked six home runs (including a franchise record-tying three in Erie on Wednesday) and three doubles on the trip, and collected a whopping 15 RBI in the seven games he played. His nine home runs between Class AAA Buffalo and Akron are already a career-high for the Fairfax, VA native.

Matt LaPorting For Duty...Newly acquired OF/1B Matt LaPorta is expected to be in the lineup tonight against the Baysox after the Tribe acquired the 2007 7th-overall pick from Milwaukee along with three other players for former Aero and ace LHP CC Sabathia. LaPorta led the Southern League with 20 home runs at the time of the trade and was second in RBI with 66 for the Huntsville Stars. Combined with 3B Wes Hodges, the Eastern League leader in RBI, his addition should improve what is already the highest-scoring offense in the Eastern League. LaPorta will join Hodges on the U.S. roster in the XM All-Star Futures Game to be played on Sunday, July 13 at Yankee Stadium that will be broadcast live on ESPN2 at 12:30 p.m.
