Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- The Defenders and Mets split a double dip at the Dodd on Tuesday as Connecticut took game one, 4-1 and dropped the nightcap, 1-0.

Ben Snyder continued the string of great starting pitching in game one as he lasted six frames, gave up one earned run, four hits, one walk and struck out three en route to his first win of the season.

The Defs offense showed up in the second inning when Eddy Martinez-Esteve singled. Ryan Rohlinger doubled Eddy home, and Jake Wald bounced a grounder to short with Rohlinger on third. The throw came home and was in time but Ryan bulled over Salomon Manriquez and the ball was jarred loose. The third run of the frame crossed on a RBI single off the bat of Kyle Haines as the Defenders claimed a 3-0 advantage.

Pablo Sandoval hit a laser beam home run to right field off the foul pole in the fifth with two down as the Defs pulled ahead 4-0.

The Mets finally plated a run in the sixth as Ambiorix Concepcion singled Fernando Martinez to the plate to make it 4-1.

Kelvin Pichardo locked down game one as he faced the minimum and struck out two in his seventh save of the season.

Game two was a battle of attrition. The Mets struggled against righty starter Brooks McNiven and the Defenders were baffled by Eric Brown.

The silence was broken in the fifth when Concepcion ran home on a sacrifice fly off the stick of Emmanuel Garcia.

The 1-0 score is where it would stay as Tim Lavigne and Eddie Kunze kept the Defenders at bay and Jason Waddell slipped out of trouble in the seventh to continue the Mets confusion.

When it was all said and done, it was like kissing one's sister- a tie. One game each.

Wednesday will feature a more traditional nine-inning contest between the Defs and Mets at 6:35pm. Tickets are available for the game at ctdefenders.com or by calling the box office at (860) 887-7962.
