Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON, OH - Aeros outfielder Trevor Crowe took home Eastern League Player of the Month honors Monday for his outstanding performance in June. Not to be outdone, Akron catcher Wyatt Toregas was named Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 6th. It is the fourth straight week an Aero has been given Player of the Week honors.

Crowe hit .400 (42-105) in June to lead the Eastern League, and his 24 RBI tied for the most in the league with teammate Bronson Sardinha. Crowe also pounded four home runs and stole five bases. The top four RBI men in the Eastern League in June were Aeros, as Josh Rodriguez put up 22 and Wes Hodges drove in 21.

The Tribe's first-round pick in the 2005 draft, Crowe began June with a .155 batting average only to finish the month at .313. Prior to Toregas claiming Player of the Week honors, Crowe took home the award two weeks in a row. He was the first player to win back-to-back weekly awards since Harrisburg's Dee Haynes in 2005, and was the first Aero to ever accomplish the feat. Over his last 12 games, the switch-hitter is batting .551 (27-49) with seven doubles, four home runs, and 18 RBI. For the season, Crowe is hitting .325 with four home runs, 26 RBI, and nine stolen bases.

Toregas hit .421 (8-19) with three doubles, five home runs, 13 RBI and six runs scored for the Aeros, who finished the week 6-1 on a road trip to Erie and Binghamton. With the eight extra-base hits, Toregas slugged 1.368 this week with an OPS of 1.888. For the week, Toregas enjoyed three games with at least four RBI and put together a pair of three-hit games.

Monday, Toregas was 1-2 and gave the Aeros a 3-2 second-inning lead against Erie with a three-run home run before adding a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning that provided the winning margin in Akron's 6-5 victory. Toregas pounded three of Akron's seven home runs in their 10-6 win over the SeaWolves Wednesday, tying the franchise record for home runs in a game. On Sunday, Toregas was 3-4 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI in Akron's 14-5 win over Binghamton.

On the year, Toregas is hitting .320 with five doubles, seven home runs, 19 RBI, 10 runs scored, nine walks, and a slugging percentage of .840. Combined with the two homers he collected at Class AAA Buffalo, Toregas has set a new career-high with nine this season, surpassing the eight home runs he hit with Class A Kinston and Akron in 2006. The Indians drafted Toregas in the 24th round of the 2004 June Draft out of Virginia Tech University. Last year, he hit .250 with six home runs and 39 RBI for the Aeros.

Akron is home tonight for a 7:05 p.m. contest with Bowie. The Aeros send left-hander Scott Lewis (3-2, 5.28 ERA) to the hill against Bowie's Zach Clark (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Newly acquired prospect Matt LaPorta will hit third and play left field for the first-place Aeros, winners of seven of their last eight. It is also Two-for-Tuesday at Canal Park with tickets and select concessions selling at buy-one, get-one discounts. The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at (330) 253-5151.
