Eastern League Player Of The Month
Published on July 8, 2008 under Eastern League (EL1) News Release
Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Akron Aeros outfielder Trevor Crowe has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of June. The 24-year old was a near unanimous selection for the award after hitting .400 (42-for-105) with 10 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 32 runs scored, 24 RBI, 16 walks, five steals, a .472 on-base percentage and a .629 slugging percentage in 25 games during the month. Crowe, who is a native of Portland, Oregon, reached base in all but one of the games he played in during the month and collected at least one hit in 20 out of those 25 games, including 12 multiple hit games. In addition Trevor also scored a run in 19 games during the month, including a streak of 11 straight games in which he scored 16 times. The 6'0", 190 lb. switch hitter led the league or tied for the league lead in virtually every offensive category during the month of June, including hits (42), batting average (.400), total bases (66), runs scored (32) and RBI (24). It is no surprise that Crowe was selected as the winner of this award since he took home two of the five Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week awards that were handed out during the month. He closed out the month by winning the award for the weeks ending June 23rd and June 30th, becoming the first Eastern League player since Harrisburg's Dee Haynes in 2005 to win the award in back to back weeks. Trevor, who hit .259 with 26 doubles, 87 runs scored and 28 stolen bases in 133 games with the Aeros last season, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the 2005 draft as the 14th overall pick after hitting .403 with 83 runs scored and 54 RBI in 60 games and being named Pacific-10 Co-Player of the Year as a junior at the University of Arizona.
