Pena Selected to Participate in Futures Game

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees and Major League Baseball, announced today that INF Ramiro Pena will participate for the World Team in the Futures Game as part of the Major League All-Star Game festivities at Yankee Stadium in New York on Sunday, July 13th. Pena was added to the team when 2B Emilio Bonifacio was promoted from Triple-A Tucson to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The exhibition game pits a United States team against a World squad, with both teams consisting of 25 of baseball's top prospects. Major League Baseball, in conjunction with all 30 clubs, combines with Baseball America to determine the players that will take the field as part of the All-Star Game festivities. The 2008 Futures Game will be broadcast live at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Pena is hitting .274 in 78 G with 2 HR and 37 RBI this season for Trenton. During the month of June, he had a .305 BA in 26 games with one home run and 12 RBI. During 2007, Pena hit .252 with 10 RBI in 52 games. He also appeared in 26 games for the Thunder in the 2006 season. He had a .198 in 26 G with 6 RBI. He was signed by the Yankees as a free agent on 2/18/05.

He will be the 11th Thunder player to appear in the Futures Game, joining RHP Joba Chamberlain (2007) and RHP Phil Hughes (2006) who appeared in the games the last two seasons. Below is a listing of former Thunder representatives in the Futures Games:
