Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC-- The first-half northern division champion Hickory Crawdads came to McCormick Field on Wednesday night and they ran into an Asheville Tourists team that was clicking on all cylinders. Despite having lost five of six to the Crawdads this season, the Tourists continued their hot play on the diamond with an 8-2 victory.

Sam Howard started for Asheville and tossed six innings of scoreless baseball. Howard scattered seven hits and struck out four to keep the Crawdads off balance.

Offensively, the Tourists struck in a big way the bottom of the second. A Shane Hoelscher double sandwiched between two walks loaded the bases with no outs. Yonathan Daza then laced a triple into left-centerfield that cleared the bases. Daza promptly scored on a Ryan Stephens double.

The game remained 4-0 until Hickory took advantage of an error in the seventh. The Crawdads plated two in the frame but the Tourists responded with three runs in the bottom half. Asheville also took advantage of an error that allowed two of the runs to score. The home team tacked on one more in the eighth.

Blake Shouse pitched the final three frames to notch his first save of the season. Daza finished 3-for-4 while Hoelscher, Stephens, and Dom Nunez all recorded extra-base hits. The Tourists walked a total of seven times; five off Crawdads' starter Cody Buckel.

Asheville has won four games in a row and holds a 17-8 record since the All-Star Break. The series against Hickory continues on Thursday night with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
