(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Samir Duenez had three hits and two runs batted in, and Pedro Fernandez allowed one unearned run in six and two-thirds innings as the Lexington Legends cruised to an 11-1 win over the Rome Braves Wednesday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Outfielder Anderson Miller, the first Lexington native to play for the Legends in the team's 15-year history, made his first appearance in a home game after two games on the road. He started in right field, had one hit in five at bats and scored a run.

The Legends jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Wander Franco led off with a double and after Chad Johnson walked and Brandon Downes popped out, Duenez singled to load the bases. Michael Hill followed with a single, scoring Franco, and Luis Valenzuela drew a walk to force in another run. DonAndre Clark's single brought Duenez home, and Corey Toups' infield hit scored Hill with the fourth run of the inning.

The Legends added a run in the third, and Toups led off the fourth with his sixth home run of the year to give Lexington a 6-0 margin.

After Rome scored an unearned run in the sixth, the Legends answered with three runs in the seventh inning, the first coming on Franco's seventh homer. Duenez drove in a run with a single, and Hill's sacrifice fly gave the Legends a 9-1 lead.

A bases-loaded walk and another RBI single by Duenez in the eighth wrapped up the scoring.

Fernandez, who was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for July 13-19, turned in another strong outing. He gave up two hits in six and two-thirds innings, walked one batter and struck out 10.

Rome starter Sean Furney (5-4) took the loss.

Game two of the three-game series will be played Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
