Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 22, 2015) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted shortstop Eddy Alvarez to the Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem Dash today. In a corresponding move, the Intimidators have received infielder Cody Daily from the Rookie-level Arizona League White Sox.
Alvarez, an Olympic silver medalist from the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, has appeared in 89 games with Kannapolis, batting .285 (94-330) with 23 doubles, six triples, two home runs, 39 RBI, and 42 stolen bases. He was named to the South Atlantic League's Mid-Season All-Star Game. The 25-year-old infielder leads the South Atlantic League in walks (69) and runs scored (64), ranks second in on-base percentage (.408), tied for second in games played, fourth in stolen bases, tied for fourth in at-bats and doubles, sixth in hits, and seventh in triples. Alvarez currently has the best single-season on-base percentage in Intimidators history (since 2001). Prior to signing with the White Sox in June 2014, Alvarez took silver in the 5000-meter short-track speed-skating relay for Team U.S.A. at the Olympics in February 2014. This is the first promotion for Alvarez to Class A-Advanced.
Daily, who turns 23 next week, is making his professional debut this season with the Arizona League White Sox. He leads the AZL with a .390 batting average (32-82) to go along with 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 15 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 20 games with the Arizona League White Sox. Daily also leads the Rookie-level circuit in slugging percentage (.695), total bases (57), and extra-base hits (16). He ranks tied for second in doubles and runs scored, ranks third in on-base percentage (.440) and tied for third in hits. The White Sox signed Daily last off-season after he finished his collegiate career at Southern Illinois, graduating in 2014. He earned Second-Team All-Conference as a senior after batting .333 in 56 games.
The Intimidators open a seven-game road trip today by starting a three-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park. First pitch tonight is at 7:00 p.m. The team returns to Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System on Thursday, July 30.
