Power Bats Sleep in Early Shutout Loss

(Lakewood Township, NJ- July 22, 2015)- The West Virginia Power lost 4-0 on Wednesday to the Lakewood BlueClaws. Ranfi Casimiro and Joey DeNato combined to shutout the Power on four hits in the series opener at FirstEnergy Park.

Casimiro and West Virginia starter Colten Brewer matched zeros for three innings before the BlueClaw broke through in the fourth. Jiondido Tromp doubled in Kyle Martin from second to spot Lakewood to a 1-0 lead. The "Claws added three runs in the bottom of the seventh on a single, a triple, a sac fly and a solo home run for a 4-0 advantage.

Casimiro (6-5) allowed hits to Jerrick Suiter and Taylor Gushue in the second and fourth innings, respectively, before retiring 12 consecutive batters. The Power loaded the bases in the eighth, but DeNato induced a flyout to end the inning. West Virginia had two on the bases in the ninth, but again DeNato settled in and recorded the final two outs for his sixth save.

Brewer (2-8) suffered the loss despite only allowing one run on three hits over four innings. Four different Power players collected a hit in the shutout loss, which was West Virginia's sixth such defeat this season.

West Virginia and Lakewood continue this three game series on Thursday evening. Austin Coley seeks his 11th victory of the season and is opposed by Austin Davis with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm.
