Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC-- The Rome Braves had high hopes to take a 'two games to none' series lead on the Asheville Tourists this Sunday afternoon. Rome sent arguably their ace, Touki Toussaint, to the pitcher's mound to start. Toussaint was coming off a six inning, no-hit outing his last appearance. He was greeted by a Tourists team out to exact revenge.

On the first pitch Toussaint threw, Max White crushed a Home Run over the right field wall. Omar Carrizales followed with a single to right-centerfield then Shane Hoelscher blasted a tape-measure shot over the left field wall. The three-run first inning was just a preview of what was to come.

Rome managed a run in the top of the second but White countered with an RBI single in the bottom half. In the third, the Tourists decided to play long-ball off Toussaint again. Hoelscher led off the inning with his second deep shot of the game. Dom Nunez made it back-to-back Home Runs with a bomb to right.

In the fourth, Carrizales doubled in a run and Hoelscher added a two-run double. Toussaint was lifted from the game having allowed nine runs on ten hits; four of which were Home Runs. Asheville's starter, Carlos Polanco, was good enough to keep the Braves at bay. He lasted six innings, gave up four runs, and notched his fifth consecutive victory.

Asheville continued to add on runs against the Braves bullpen. The Tourists scored at least once in every inning. They saved their best inning for last by scoring four times in the bottom of the eighth.

Blake Shouse picked up a save by tossing three innings of scoreless baseball out of Asheville's bullpen. Hoelscher finished 5-for-5 with five RBI while Carrizales, Nunez, and Yonathan Daza all recorded three-hit games. The Tourists finished with a season-high 16 runs and their 19 hits was one hit shy of matching a season-high.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Monday night at 7:05pm.
