Greenville Drive News Release
Charleston, SC - The Greenville Drive busted out of their seven-game losing skid in a big way, collecting 16 hits in a 10-2 demolition of the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday. With the win, the Drive clinched at least a tie in this season's Battle of the Palmetto State Rivalry Series presented by Spinx.
The Drive (13-17, 51-49) received contributions up and down the lineup on Sunday. Nick Longhi led the charge by going 3-5 with a homer and two RBI. Deiner Lopez, Danny Mars and Mike Meyers chipped in with three hits apiece, and Joseph Monge went 2-4 on the day, while Rafael Devers smacked a grand slam.
After falling behind 2-0 early, the Drive roared back and scored the final ten runs of the game. The comeback began in the top of the third when Monge doubled and came home on Yoan Moncada's sacrifice fly.
In the fourth, Longhi cracked a solo homer to left-center off Rony Bautista (3-4) to tie things up. For Longhi, it was his fourth long ball of the year and his first since May 31st.
Two runs in the top of the fifth put the Drive ahead for good and chased Bautista from the game. Longhi struck again with an RBI single to plate Moncada, who singled and stole second. Meyers followed with an RBI single of his own, scoring Michael Chavis.
Moncada's second sacrifice fly of the game in the sixth tacked on the Drive's fifth run.
After being kept off the board in the seventh, the Drive came up big in the eighth. Devers had only one hit on the afternoon, but he made it count when he launched a Dillon McNamara offering to right for his second grand slam of the season.
Kuehl McEachern improved to 5-2 on the year after firing two and one-third scoreless relief innings with four strikeouts.
Charleston scored both of their runs in the second against Greenville starter Jalen Beeks after an RBI ground-rule double by Isaias Tejeda and a run-scoring single by Alexander Palma.
With one more victory, the Drive will take home the Spinx Rivalry Series trophy after Charleston won it in 2014, and they will send RH Jeffry Fernandez (3-8, 6.33) to the mound on Monday looking to get that win. First pitch of the game will be delivered by RiverDogs RH Jordan Foley (3-4, 3.33) at 7:05 PM.
