Toronto Marlies News Release
Last Week
The Toronto Marlies had a busy three games in three days this past weekend, collecting two wins and inching closer to a playoff spot. The weekend featured back to back games against the Adirondack Flames, who sit one spot ahead of the Marlies in the standings, and a contest against the division leading Utica Comets. The action began Friday night when the Marlies beat the Flames 5-3, bolstered by an offensive outburst by defenceman Petter Granberg, who contributed four assists in the win. The last four point effort in Marlies history came courtesy TJ Brennan on January 15, 2014 in 4-3 overtime win against Iowa. The win also pushed the Marlies season high win streak to five games.
Unfortunately in the rematch on Saturday, Adirondack was determined to end the streak and did so; earning a 4-1 win. The Marlies looked to return to the win column Sunday with a game against the North Division leading Utica Comets. Byron Froese would open for the Marlies, scoring on a shorthanded effort early in the first period, while Matt Frattin would score his team leading 18th goal later in the frame. The two goals would be enough for Christopher Gibson who would turn aside 34 shots, including 17 in the third period, securing the 2-1 victory.
