Rampage Slip Past Admirals 3-2 in Overtime
March 11, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (March 11, 2015) - Jesse Blacker's overtime goal lifted the San Antonio Rampage (34-19-5-1) to a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals (31-20-5-4) in front of 4,667 at the AT&T Center on Wednesday night. In the first of two meetings between the two teams this season, Michael Houser made 33 saves on 35 shots, while Brett Olson, Dany Heatley and Blacker notched goals for San Antonio.
After nearly 35 minutes of scoreless hockey, Olson lit the lamp for his second goal in as many games, giving the Rampage their eighth shorthanded tally of the season. Bobby Butler found Olson on the break and his shot from outside the right circle slipped over the right shoulder of Marek Mazanec.
The Admirals answered two minutes later when Mark Van Guilder punched in a rebound off Johan Alm's shot to even the score at one.
San Antonio took the lead back near the midway point of the third period, as Heatley converted off a Corban Knight pass for his third goal of the season and first in a Rampage uniform.
Once again, Milwaukee answered, this time with a goal from Austin Watson to knot the game at two at 11:46 and force overtime.
Just 18 seconds into the extra frame, Blacker beat Mazanec to give the Rampage their sixth overtime win of the season.
KEY STAT
Blacker's overtime goal scored 18 seconds into the extra frame is the second fastest overtime goal in franchise history, coming in second to Joel Perrault's overtime winner just 16 seconds in on Jan. 9, 2009 - also against Milwaukee.
QUOTABLE
"If it wasn't for Houser, we may not have made it to overtime. We won the game because of him."
-- Rampage Coach Tom Rowe
LINEUP NOTES
Dany Heatley played on the second line with Corban Knight and Mark Mancari, and Connor Brickley skated with Logan Shaw and Andrew Yogan on the third line. Jonathan Racine paired with Jesse Blacker and Matt Corrente with Shane O'Brien for the second straight game.
