Last Week
The past week saw the Marlies in action four times, playing to a record of 2-2-0-0. The Marlies began their weekend in Utica, taking on the North division leading Comets.
Goaltender Jacob Markstrom, since recalled to the NHL, was the games' first star steering away 26 shots to fend off the Marlies, 5-2. Ryan Rupert and Brendan Leipsic both recorded goals, while Antoine Bibeau faced 23 shots in the losing effort.
On Saturday, the Marlies faced Texas, last year's Calder Cup Champions, in the final meeting between the two clubs this season. Looking to even the season series, Toronto's Brendan Mikkelson would be the only Marlie to get a shot past Texas goaltender Jussi Rynnas. The Marlies fell 3-1.
Sunday brought the Charlotte Checkers into town for the first of two games, along with goaltender Drew MacIntyre who backstopped the Marlies to the Conference finals last season. All pleasantries would be quickly forgotten as the Marlies scored a season high six goals, including four in the third period to seal a 6-3 victory.
The two teams met again Wednesday for a school day matchup; the second of three for the Marlies this year. Toronto would strike early, with two goals in the first period and adding one more in each remaining periods for a 4-1 win. Connor Brown recorded three points, while Ryan Rupert collected the game winner.
The defensive pairing of Andrew MacWilliam and Kevin Marshall has a strong performance with each player recording a +8 over the four game stretch this week.
