Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, 5-4 in overtime from Copps Coliseum tonight in Hamilton.
Carter Ashton's first goal of the season opened the scoring early in the first period off a chance created by linemate Leo Komarov. Hamilton replied just seconds later on Mike Blunden's first goal of the year. Jake Gardiner put the Marlies ahead in the second period with his third goal of the season. The back and forth scoring would continue with Brendan Gallagher equalizing for the Bulldogs. Frederic St-Denis and Greg McKegg also recorded goals for their respective clubs in the middle frame. Mike Zigomanis gave Toronto an early third period lead off a feed from Nazem Kadri. Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont equalized for Hamilton with six minutes left in regulation. The Marlies were forced to kill off a penalty in overtime before defenceman Simon Gysbers scored on a slapshot from the point to secure the win for Toronto.
The Marlies will now head to Abbotsford for a pair of games starting on Thursday, November 1. After two games in British Columbia, the team will continue on the road with three games in three nights in Texas before traveling to Oklahoma City and Hamilton to finish the trip.
