Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen, who had yet to score more than two goals in a game, rattle off four goals in a 12:19 stretch of the third period to come back and beat the Chicago Wolves 4-1 on Friday night at Carver Arena. Evgeny Grachev, Derek Nesbitt, Jaden Schwartz, and Anthony Peluso all scored goals for Peoria while Jake Allen made 32 saves in his second win of the year.
After a scoreless first period, Chicago was able to break the tie just 2:57 into the second frame. A turnover in the defensive zone resulted in a Wolves 2-on-1 odd man rush that Jordan Schroeder was able to bury for his first goal of the season. Darren Haydar and Steve Pinizzotto earned assists on the play.
The Rivermen responded early in the third period to tie the contest. Peluso walked in and fired a wrist shot over the glove of Matt Climie to score his team-leading third goal of the year. Chris Bruton earned the only assist on the goal scored at the 2:54 mark of the third.
Grachev scored his first goal of the year at 6:54 to give Peoria their first lead of the night. Climie made a save off a 2-on-1 rush but gave up a rebound to Grachev, who blasted one from the top of the circle to give Peoria a 2-1 lead. Andrew Murray and Tyler Shattock got assists.
With 8:11 remaining in the third, Nesbitt scored his first goal of the season increase the Rivermen lead to two goals. T.J. Hensick and Nesbitt exchanged passes as they entered into the offensive zone. Nesbitt fanned on a wrist shot attempt, but stayed with it and beat Climie with a wrister on his second shot attempt.
Schwartz added a goal at 15:13 of the third from Hensick and Nesbitt to make the score 4-1.
Both teams had 33 shots on goal and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
