Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY -- In the first game of the Time Warner Cable Cup, the Albany Devils unloaded five goals en route to a 5-1 victory against the Adirondack Phantoms Friday at Times Union Center. In an outing with two penalty shot goals, Albany had three players with multiple points and Jeff Frazee turned aside 23 shots.

The victory was the Devils first at home, improving to 2-3-0-0 overall, while the Phantoms go to 2-3-0-0.

Jacob Josefson and Matt Anderson both had a goal and an assist and Adam Larsson tallied two helpers. Also finding the back of the net were Adam Henrique, Phil DeSimone and Darcy Zajac.

Josefson and Anderson opened the scoring in the first with goals at 4:03 and 15:57. The game's first penalty shot goal came from Adirondack's Zac Rinaldo at 18:25 of the same period.

From there the Devils took over. Henrique netted his own penalty shot goal at 8:17 and Phil DeSimone followed with a highlight-reel tally at 9:13 of the third. The first-year Devil dragged the puck from his left side, between his legs and around a pair of Phantom defenders. He then went five hole on goaltender Cal Heeter.

Zajac finished the scoring at 12:11, redirecting Larsson's shot from the point.

The only power plays of the game went to Adirondack late in the game and Albany denied both opportunities. The Devils, who have scored first in every game this season, outshot the Phantoms, 30-24.

Of note, the game marked the first time since Dec. 7, 1996 (Springfield vs. Providence) that there were two penalty shots successfully converted in an AHL contest.

The Devils return to action Saturday with a 7 pm contest against the Hershey Bears at Giant Center. Fans can follow the action online at ahllive.com.
