Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Early homers hit by the Albuquerque Isotopes (25-26) secured the 11-3 victory over the Nashville Sounds (21-30) Tuesday night at Isotopes Park. Tagg Bozied led the offensive barrage for the ‘Topes as he collected four hits in five at bats, including his sixth homer of the year, and drove in three runs.

The Isotopes struck first in the opening frame as Robert Andino led off the inning by slashing a single to left field. Andino would be caught stealing second base, but on the very next pitch John Gall prolonged his home-field dominance by destroying a pitch deep over the left-center field wall for Albuquerque's initial lead, 1-0.

Andino continued to spark the Isotopes in the third inning scolding a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for a solo blast doubling the lead to 2-0. Following a pair of walks to Gall and Jason Wood, Bozied tattooed a three-run homer into left field as the Isotopes extended their lead, 5-0.

Brendan Katin slapped a single to left-center field to start the fifth inning for Nashville, setting up Ozzie Chavez who advanced Katin to second with a single of his own. With two men on, Nashville reliever Steve Bray bunted a perfect sacrifice that advanced the runners to second and third. Callix Crabbe then cleared the bases and put the Sounds on the board with a two-run triple trimming the lead to 5-2. Tony Gwynn then would drive in Crabbe on a slow ground out fielded by Chris Barnwell to cut the ‘Topes' advantage to just two at 5-3.

Albuquerque bounced back in the bottom of the fifth as Gall would reach on a missed pop out fielding error by second baseman Chavez. Gall would then dash for home on a line drive double cracked by Wood to extend the Isotopes advantage back to three, 6-3

Barnwell led off the sixth inning with a walk and then would scamper to second on a sacrifice bunt executed by pitcher Chris Seddon. With Andino up to the plate, Sounds' catcher Vinny Rotino attempted to pick-off Barnwell at second, but his errant throw to centerfield allowed Barnwell to sprint from second to home for another Albuquerque run, 7-3.

The Isotopes offensive outburst continued in the seventh when Bozied laced a single to left field, stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Ben Howard. Andrew Beattie then slapped a single into right field to plate Bozied and open up an 8-3 ‘Topes lead. Beattie then promptly stole second for Barnwell, who drove him in with an infield single, giving Albuquerque a commanding 9-3 advantage. .

Still the ‘Topes were far from finished, as Jai Miller led off the eighth by reaching on a fielding error by third baseman Brad Nelson in front of the red-hot Gall, who stung a double to left field moving Miller to third. With two runners in scoring position, Wood cleaned the bases with a two-run single to send Albuquerque to an 11-3 triumph.

After suffering the loss in the last outing, Seddon (4-3) returned to form with a strong performance to claim his fourth victory of the season. The left-hander worked six-plus innings, allowing three runs on nine hits while tying a team-high with nine strikeouts.

Albuquerque will look to extend its winning ways against the Nashville Sounds behind righty Dallas Trahern (0-4, 9.25), who will look for his first win of the season against Sounds right-hander Richie Gardner (3-1, 5.35) in a 7:05 PM start at Isotopes Park.

The ‘Topes continue an action-packed homestand tomorrow that is complete with a team poster giveaway on Thursday, an Isotopes Friday T-shirt giveaway, an appearance by the Zooperstars, and 50-cent hot dog night.
