Bobby Scales lined a grand slam in the fifth inning en route to a 10-8 Iowa Cubs win over the Memphis Redbirds on a chilly Tuesday night at Principal Park.

Joe Mather scored for Memphis in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, but Iowa scored two on Casey McGehee's single in their half of the inning to edge the Redbirds, 2-1.

The score remained within one until the fifth inning. Eric Patterson hit a two-RBI single before Felix Pie and Matt Murton walked to load the bases for Scales. Scales hit the first grand slam of the season for the Iowa Cubs, taking an 8-1 lead over Memphis.

Memphis batted around and posted four runs in the sixth inning. Bryan Anderson drove in Colby Rasmus with a single while D'Angelo Jimenez hit an RBI single and Mather tallied two runs with a double to cut the Cubs lead 8-5.

The Redbirds posted one more run in the seventh to move within two. Iowa took a 10-6 lead in the seventh inning when Koyie Hill drove in Murton and McGehee with his seventh double of the year. The Redbirds inched closer to the Cubs in the eighth inning after two runs crossed the plate for a 10-8 final.

J.R. Mathes threw 5.2 innings, giving up five run, to pick up the win for Iowa. Blake Hawksworth took the loss for Memphis.
