Top of the Order Leads Freedom to 9-3 Victory

Slippery Rock, PA: The second half of the Freedom's four-game road trip began last night against the expansion Slippery Rock Sliders. Northern Kentucky University grad Josh Bruns got the call for the Freedom, and he pitched very well. The offense also did it's part in a big victory.

Florence wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Greg Stone walked to lead-off the game, then Reggie Watson followed him up with a single. Ryan Basham then slammed a two-run double to rightfield. Basham later scored on an RBI groundout by Beau Blacken. The Freedom added two in the third and then four in the eighth to give them a 9-3 win.

Greg Stone powered the offense from the lead-off spot, he went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Reggie Watson had a big night, he went 4-5 with two runs scored. Ryan Basham went 2-5 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored. Josh Lex went 2-5 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Josh Bruns (2-0 2.57 ERA) went five innings, only allowing two runs on two hits, striking out four.

The win was Freedom manager Jaime Keefe's 300th win as a Frontier League manager. Before joining the Freedom in 2005, Keefe was at the helm of the Chillicothe Paints. Domingo Acosta will get the start for the Freedom tonight, first pitch in Slippery Rock is scheduled for 7:05.
